How to Make the Geerlok Hypermodulating Tool

By EverQuest NexusPublished March 21, 2026intermediate

The standard Geerlok tools each cover one tradeskill. If you work multiple tradeskills, that's a lot of bag space. The Geerlok Hypermodulating Tool solves this — it's a single item that can be converted to any of the seven general tradeskills with a no-fail combine.

The catch: building one is a serious Tinkering project. You need 240 Tinkering, eight subcombines, and a handful of dropped components. This guide walks through every step.

What you get

A single tool that provides +5% to whichever tradeskill you need. To switch it, combine the tool by itself in any tradeskill container — forge for Smithing, loom for Tailoring, kiln for Pottery, and so on. The conversion is no-fail with a trivial of 15, so any character can do it regardless of skill level.

Same +5% bonus as a regular Geerlok. Same rules: doesn't stack with trophies, only the highest modifier counts. The advantage is purely practical — one inventory slot instead of seven.

Requirements

  • Tinkering 240 (Gnome only)
  • Deluxe Toolbox or equivalent tinkering container
  • All seven tradeskill module subcombines (Tinkering 220 each)
  • One lubricant subcombine (Tinkering 175)

This is a mid-to-late Tinkering project. If your Tinkering is below 220, you'll want to skill up before attempting the modules — failed combines eat components.

Step 1: Make the Lubricant

The easiest subcombine. Do this one first.

Green Ooze Slime1Dropped (various ooze mobs)
Small Grease Jar1Crafted (Pottery) or bought

The Small Grease Jar is a Pottery subcombine if you can't find one on a vendor. If you're not a potter, check the bazaar.

Step 2: Make the seven modules

Each module represents one tradeskill. All seven are Tinkering combines at trivial 220, made in a Toolbox. All are Gnome-only.

Every module shares a common base of Gears, Sprockets, Gnomish Bolts, and a Universal Joint, plus a couple of tradeskill-specific components. The specific parts are where the work is — some are vendor-bought, some are dropped.

Step 3: Final combine

Once you have all seven modules and the lubricant, you're ready for the main event.

That's 10 items in the container. Use a Deluxe Toolbox — a standard Toolbox may not have enough slots.

Step 4: Converting between tradeskills

The tool initially comes out set to Smithing. To switch it to another tradeskill, combine it by itself in any container for that tradeskill:

Target TradeskillContainer
SmithingForge
TailoringSewing Kit / Loom
PotteryKiln / Pottery Wheel
FletchingFletching Kit
BakingOven / Mixing Bowl
BrewingBrew Barrel
JewelcraftJeweler's Kit

Every conversion is no-fail at trivial 15. You don't need any skill in the target tradeskill. You don't need to be a Gnome. Anyone can convert it once it's made.

Shopping list summary

Before you start, gather these dropped components. Everything else is vendor-bought:

Check the bazaar before farming. These aren't exactly hot-ticket items, and someone may have a stack rotting in their trader bags.

Is it worth making?

Honestly? It depends on how many tradeskills you actively work. If you're a dedicated multi-tradeskiller swapping modifiers constantly, the convenience is real. If you only do one or two tradeskills, just buy the individual Geerloks — they're cheaper and require no Tinkering skill.

Either way, remember that Geerloks are a +5% stopgap. Your real goal is a tradeskill trophy at +15%. The Hypermodulating Tool is a nice luxury while you're getting there.
