Learn Baking

By EverQuest NexusPublished March 21, 2026beginner

Baking produces food items that grant stat buffs when carried as the first food item in your inventory. Player-made food offers longer durations and better stats than anything you can buy from a vendor. Every class can bake, and the ingredients are among the most accessible of any tradeskill.

Overview

At its core, baking is straightforward: combine ingredients in a mixing bowl or oven and produce food. The complexity comes from the sheer number of recipes — 831 total — and the ingredient sourcing, which ranges from vendor-bought supplies to foraged components to dropped loot.

Later expansions added stat food that provides meaningful combat benefits, making Baking one of the more practically useful tradeskills for self-sufficiency.

Containers & Equipment

Baking uses more container types than most tradeskills. Different recipe categories require different containers.

Supplementary Tools

Baking has a wide array of specialized tools depending on the recipe:

  • Bread tins, cake rounds, pie tins, casserole dishes, muffin tins
  • Pots, skillets, skewers
  • Cutting tools
  • Cookie cutters (animal shapes, race-specific shapes)

These are mostly purchased from baking supply vendors in tradeskill-heavy zones.

Reaching 350

The 301–350 grind requires learning 698 of 831 total baking recipes through the recipe discovery system. This is one of the larger recipe pools among tradeskills — plan for a significant ingredient investment.

Ingredient Sourcing

Baking ingredients come from three main sources:

  • Vendors — flour, sugar, milk, eggs, spices, and other staples
  • Foraging — many recipes require foraged ingredients (berries, vegetables, roots)
  • Drops — some expansion-specific recipes use dropped components

Key Recipes

Focus on recipes that produce usable stat food — these sell well and are worth making even beyond the skill-up value:

  • Misty Thicket Picnic — classic mid-range stat food
  • Halas 10lb Meat Pie — staple leveling recipe
  • Burnt food — failed combines sometimes produce burnt items that vendor for a small return
  • Expansion-specific stat food — each expansion tier adds new best-in-slot food
