Learn Tailoring
Tailoring is open to all classes and races. You work with pelts, hides, silks, and cloth to produce armor, bags, and cultural gear. It's one of the more ingredient-intensive tradeskills — expect to spend significant time gathering materials or buying them from other players.
Containers & Equipment
Tailoring uses two types of containers: stationary looms and portable sewing kits.
Looms (Stationary)
| Container | Notes |
|---|---|
| Loom | Standard, found in crafting halls |
| Loom (Placeable) | For housing/guild hall |
| Guild Loom (Placeable) | Guild hall version |
| Tanaan Loom | Crescent Reach area |
Sewing Kits (Portable)
| Container | Notes |
|---|---|
| Deluxe Sewing Kit | Recommended — good capacity, widely available |
| Large Sewing Kit | Decent capacity |
| Small Sewing Kit | Starter option |
| Collapsed Sewing Kit | Collapsible for inventory space |
| Planar Sewing Kit | Planes-era variant |
| Coldain Tanners Kit | Velious-era kit |
Racial Sewing Kits
Race-specific kits exist for cultural armor recipes: Antonican, Clockwork, Crystalwing, Dwarven, Erudite, Feir'Dal, Guktan, Half Elf, Iksar, Koada'Dal, Northman, Ogre, Shar Vahl, Troll, and Vale variants. These are required for their respective cultural armor combines.
Modifier tool: Geerlok Sculpting Tools — adds 5% to base skill. Does not stack with trophy; only the highest modifier applies.
What You Can Make
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Cloth Armor | Silk, linen, and woven armor sets |
| Leather Armor | Hide and pelt-based armor for melee/hybrid classes |
| Cultural Armor | Race-specific sets with augment slots and deity requirements |
| Bags | Various sizes — one of Tailoring's most practical outputs |
| Class-Specific Gear | Modern expansion armor with class/level requirements |
Getting Started
- Crescent Reach (recommended): Find Tailor Nabirya on the second floor of the main building. Complete her four introductory tasks for free skill-ups to 54.
- Abysmal Sea: Alternate freebie and collect quests available.
At skill 54, visit Event Coordinator Baublie Diggs in West Freeport to begin the Beginner Tailor Test trophy task.
Skill-Up Path Overview
| Range | Method |
|---|---|
| 0–54 | Crescent Reach freebie quests (free) |
| 55–76 | Vendor-bought materials path |
| 76–300 | Dropped pelts, hides, silks — no vendor path past 76 |
| 301–350 | Recipe discovery system |
Skill cap: 350 at mastery. Reaching 350 requires learning 2,078 total recipes (1,492 from recipe books, 586 learned manually).
If you already have another tradeskill past 200, purchase New Tanaan Crafting Mastery AAs (3 AA points each) before pushing Tailoring past 200.
Key Recipes
Early progression relies on vendor-bought materials:
- Skill 0–54: Free via Crescent Reach quests
- Skill 55–76: Vendor patterns + basic cloth/thread
- Skill 76+: Transition to dropped components — Small/Medium/Large pelts and hides from various mobs
Cultural armor recipes open up at higher skills and require race-specific recipe books plus racial sewing kits.
Trophy Progression
- Must be equipped to evolve
- Only successful combines above your current skill level advance the trophy
- Trophy will not evolve on recipes more than 100 trivial points above your current skill (until skill 250)
- Geerlok Sculpting Tools and trophy bonuses do not stack
