Learn Smithing

By EverQuest NexusPublished March 21, 2026beginner

Smithing is open to all classes and races. You work at a forge to produce weapons, armor, shields, cooking utensils, and a wide array of metal goods. It's one of EverQuest's oldest and most recipe-dense tradeskills, with over 2,300 total recipes.

Containers & Equipment

All smithing is performed at a forge. Stationary forges are found in nearly every city; portable and placeable options exist for convenience.

Modifier tool: Geerlok Automated Hammer — adds 5% to base skill. Does not stack with trophy; only the highest modifier applies.

Race-specific forges exist in home cities but are functionally identical to standard forges for non-cultural recipes.

Key Recipes

The classic leveling path runs through these staples:

  • Sheet Metal (trivial 21) — 2x Small Piece of Ore. Dirt cheap vendor start.
  • Banded Armor (trivial 35–68) — Sheet Metal + Large Bricks of Ore. All vendor-bought.
  • Fine Plate (trivial 68–122) — Fine Steel components, requires smelting first.
  • Cultural Armor (trivial 122+) — Race-specific recipe books required.

See the Smithing Leveling Guide for the full cost-optimized path from 0 to 300+.

Trophy Progression
