March Update: Vendor Sourcing, Ground Spawns, and What's Next
Big day for the supply side of the site. We shipped a handful of features that have been needed since launch, and started work on a much larger overhaul of how zone supply pages work.
What Shipped Today
Vendor source classification — Every vendor in the database has been tagged with a source type: NPC vendor, mob drop, foraged item, ground spawn, or fished item. The old supply pages dumped everything into one list with no distinction. Now each zone supply page groups items by how you actually obtain them, with collapsible sections per category.
Ground Spawn page — New dedicated page under Supplies for browsing all ground spawn items across every zone. Search by item name or zone, see exactly where each item spawns. Same treatment we gave fishing spots last week.
Fishing Spot page — Already live, but worth mentioning if you missed it. Every fishable item in the game, grouped by zone, searchable.
Supply filter bar — Zone supply pages now have a proper filter bar with text search, tradeskill filter chips, and source-type toggles. Find the exact item you need without scrolling through thousands of rows.
Classifier admin dashboard — Internal tool for auditing how the source classifier tagged vendors. Helps us catch misclassifications and maintain override lists. If you notice a vendor tagged wrong on a supply page, the report button is right there.
Performance fixes — Serialized vendor item queries to stop flooding our database with concurrent connections. Reduced DB load during builds. The site should feel snappier.
What's Coming
We're in the middle of a full zone supply page overhaul. The plan is ambitious:
- Shopping list cross-referencing — when you visit a zone supply page, it'll tell you which items from your shopping lists are available there. No more alt-tabbing between pages.
- /loc copy buttons — one click copies the vendor's in-game coordinates to your clipboard. For vendors that have location data, you'll be able to paste the /loc directly into EQ.
- Recipe usage badges — each supply item will show how many recipes use it. Helps you prioritize what to buy.
- Cross-zone comparison — "This item is also available in 3 other zones" so you can find the most convenient source.
- Collapsible vendor sections with state that persists between visits. Plane of Knowledge has 12,000+ items — you shouldn't have to re-collapse sections every time.
- Tradeskill supply page overhaul — the same search, filter, and grouping treatment applied to the by-tradeskill view.
All of this is game data that gets baked into the page at build time. No loading spinners, no waiting on API calls. Fast by default.
Use the Site
If you're leveling a tradeskill and not using the recipe database here, you're making it harder than it needs to be. Search for your tradeskill, filter by trivial range, and you'll see every recipe you can skill up on — with full ingredient lists, vendor locations, and dependency trees for multi-step combines.
The shopping list feature is live for logged-in users. Add recipes, and it builds a consolidated ingredient list with vendor locations. The zone cross-referencing coming soon will make it even more useful.
Found something wrong? Every supply page has a report button. Hit it, tell us what's misclassified, and we'll fix it in the next data update.
